Ces deux mots ont bien la même origine, paion ou Apollon. Le v surajouté en français est dit "épenthétique" ! Tout comme le "r" dans chanvre pour le cannabis. L'épenthèse se produit pour adoucir des articulations inhabituelles.

Those words have the same origin paion in Greek for Apollo, peonia, peonie, pione in Middle English.
The added v in French is the result of an epenthesis as the insertion of a sound in the middle of a word thunder in Midle English from Old English thunor (tonnerre in French).
