Were they eating or picking at a dead fish?

I think they were eating the dead fish. We often see big carpus fishbones along the lake.

I don't see any rues. :) You tuck them discreetly away. Aren't we lucky to live in the country?

Les grues passent la nuit le long ou sur le lac puis elles s'envolent pour se restaurer dans les champs; Elles reviennent peu de temps avant le coucher du soleil.
@Ruth : The cranes spend the night together around the lake and they take off in the morning between 8 and 9 to split and eat in the fields some kilometers away. They come back to our lake or a bigger one (lac du Der) just before the sunset.
